Kathleen E. Carroll, 107 (!), a ten year resident of the Long Beach Peninsula, died at a Long Beach care center on December 16, 2010. A native of Sioux Falls, South Dakota she was born there on January 8, 1903, the daughter of Chester and Eleonora (Clock) Flanagan. At an early age she and her family moved to Portland, Oregon. There Kathleen attended Washington High School and she also ushered in local theaters. Kathleen graduated from Laurelwood Seventh Day Adventist Academy with a degree in teaching and later graduated from Loma Linda Adventist Nursing School where she earned her licensed practical nurse degree. Kathleen taught elementary education at the Seventh Day Adventist School in Gladstone, Oregon. She was employed as a nurse at Portland Seventh Day Adventist Hospital and also at Providence Hospital in Portland and at Dammasch State Hospital in Wilsonville, Oregon before retiring. Kathleen was a long time resident of Gaston, Oregon where she was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. After moving to the Peninsula she transferred her membership to the Long Beach Seventh Day Adventist Church. Kathleen moved to the Peninsula to be near family 10 years ago, residing at Golden Sands in Klipsan Beach and later at a local adult residential care facility. She enjoyed oil painting and was a skilled seamstress, making most of her own clothes and hats. On July 28, 1927 she married George A. Carroll in Eugene, Oregon. He died in 1968. Survivors include her son G. Alton Carroll of Ocean Park; sister Naomi Wood, age 102, of Turner, Oregon; and three nieces. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Chester and Steve Flanagan and her sisters Vesta Popham and Connie Jackson. No service will be held.
