Tim C. Williams, 81, a life long resident of the Long Beach Peninsula, died peacefully at his Ocean Park residence on December 26, 2010 with his family at his side. Born in Astoria, Oregon on August 22, 1929, he was the son of John G. and Julia (Hoare) Williams. Tim was a fourth generation resident of the Peninsula, his great-grandparents being Welsh immigrants who settled on the Peninsula in 1847. Tim grew up in Ilwaco where he attended Ilwaco grade school, graduating in 1947 from Ilwaco High School where he played varsity basketball. While in high school he dug clams commercially and worked in the oysters. Tim attended Washington State University for two years before returning to Ilwaco. Tim's business career began when he operated the Chevron service station in downtown Ilwaco. After several years he sold the station to Charles Mulvey. By now it was the early 1950s and Tim faced the prospect of military service during the Korean Conflict. Being a newly married man with an infant son, he was deferred and Tim went to work for his father operating the Sunset Theatre in Ilwaco. A few years later he entered the insurance business with Stan Lochrie. Tim later bought the business and Tim C. Williams Insurance was born. Tim Williams Insurance was sold to Strand Insurance. Tim managed the business which was then sold to Walter Brewe then purchasing the agency back in 1996 with Paul McMurray before finally retiring in 2000. Tim was very active in the community he loved. He was a member of Long Beach Elks, Ocean Park Eagles, Peninsula Lions club, Order of Odd Fellows in Ilwaco and the Long Beach Merchants Association. A former member of the Ilwaco City Council, Tim also served with the Long Beach Kite Festival and was a former member of the Ilwaco Cemetery Association. Tim and several of his lifelong friends enjoyed years of playing poker together. He thoroughly enjoyed Pai Gow, blackjack & casino visits as well as traveling to Palm Springs and other locations. Clamming and family sturgeon fishing were highlights. Tim took great pride in maintaining his automobiles and his yard where watching the wildlife gave him much joy especially in his final days. A devoted son, loving husband, father and brother, committed mentor and friend, Tim was steadfast in his love, deeply proud of his family and community; a man of honor and courage. He and Roberta Leback were married in 1951 and later divorced. On February 10, 2009 he married Pat Terry who survives, residing at the family home in Ocean Park. Also surviving are daughter Marilyn Williams of Seaview, WA; sons Tim (Marni) Williams of Battleground, WA and Tom Williams of Ilwaco; grandchildren Kenny Anderson, T. Ryan Williams and Laura Green; great-grandchildren Michael, Alexis, Julia and Jaxon; step-daughters Tracey Rogers and Susan Terry; step-grandsons Aaron and Ryan Ast; and step-great-grandson Bladyn Ast. Tim was preceded in death by his brother Adm. John G. Williams and his sister Jane Nelson. Celebration of his life will be Saturday, January 22, 2011, 1:00 PM at Long Beach Elks Lodge No. 1937 with a reception following. Private family services will be at Ilwaco Cemetery. Memorials may be made to either the Ilwaco Fire Department, PO Box 342, Ilwaco, WA 98624 or Harbors Home Health and Hospice, 210 7th Street, Hoquiam, WA 98550.
