Former area resident Martha C. "Marcie" Kauttu, 103, died May 1, 2011 in Olympia, Washington. One of nine children born to Eleil and Hilda (Rantalla) Ahola, she was born October 23, 1907 in Brush Prairie, Washington. Marcie grew up in nearby Hockinson, Washington which was then a community of rich Finnish heritage and such was Marcie's family ancestry. Marcie married Daniel Kauttu and the couple resided in several communities in southwest Washington. Dan was a logger and mechanic; Marcie a wife, mother and homemaker. They settled in Naselle and later Ilwaco. Strong of Christian faith, Marcie was a member of the Naselle Assembly of God Church where she was active in evangelistic ministries among other activities. Marcie was blessed with a rich full life. Her family wishes to express their appreciation to her caregivers Gloria and Susan for the care provide during the prolonged downward slide. Their care was given selflessly and was a source of great comfort to the very end. Susan and Marcie sang hymns together, long into her last night. Marcie is survived by her son Paul (Gloria) Kauttu of Lakewood, WA; sister Elsie Phillips; grandchildren Susan (Chuck) Cloyd, Jeff Kauttu, Leslie (Wayne) Lepin, Debbie (Robert) Jump and Dan Jacobson; great-grandchildren Rebecca, Matthew, Zoe, Eleni, Dawn, Lori, Jake, Brad, Nathan and Jessie; numerous great-great grandchildren and other members of her extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband Dan and her siblings. Memorial service will be Saturday, May 21, 2011, 2:00 PM at the Naselle Assembly of God Church which Marcie considered home.
