The life of Lois Woolwine, 68, a 13 year resident of the Peninsula, will be celebrated on Thursday, June 2, 2011, 12:30 PM at Penttila's Chapel by The Sea in Long Beach. A native of Waldron, Arkansas, she was born there on August 18, 1942, the daughter of William and Eula (Hooper) Calvert. Three years after her birth Lois moved with her family to Longview, Washington. Four years later the family moved to Live Oak, California where Lois received her education and graduated from high school. On February 17, 1961 Lois married Jim Woolwine whom she had met two years earlier and the couple settled in Colusa, California. Lois became a wife, mother and homemaker. A graduate of the cosmetology program at Yuba College, Lois also worked outside the home as a beautician. For a number of years she and her twin sister Joyce Brookins operated Twin Curls Salon in Colusa. Having visited the Peninsula over the years, she and Jim settled permanently in Ocean Park thirteen years ago. Here she could enjoy the serenity, natural beauty and small town life. Over past years too, Lois enjoyed snow skiing, fishing and shopping. A deeply caring wife, mother and grandmother, Lois will be missed by all who knew her. Besides her husband Jim of Ocean Park, Lois is survived by a daughter Leanell Ferguson of Vancouver, WA; son Lance Woolwine of Spanaway, WA; bother Obe Calvert; sisters Eula Bishop, Mert Risenhoover, Mary Gouldsmith, Joyce Brookins, Brenda Cook and Pat Comer; grandchildren Tony Woolwine, Ember Woolwine, Samantha Woolwine, Ryan Bender and Jared Bender; 11 nieces and 4 nephews.
