Richard "Dick" Petrino

March 14, 1939 — July 15, 2011

Ilwaco resident Richard J. Petrino, known family and friends as "Dick" died in Portland, Oregon on July 15, 2011 at age 72. The son of Joseph and Colleen, he was born in Butte, Montana on March 14, 1939. Soon thereafter he moved with his family to Seattle where he graduated from Lincoln High School before attending the University of Washington. Dick served his country with the United States Navy where he began his love of the sea. Following in the footsteps of his father, Dick enjoyed a progressive career in retail sales, working for many years for Pay N Save Corporation. His position as merchandise manager took him to various locations in Hawaii, Alaska, California and the Northwest. Dick loved his time on the water where he enjoyed fishing and even skippered a charter boat out of the Port of Ilwaco for a few years. The sea was Richard's serenity and when retirement called, he gravitated back to Ilwaco where once again he could fish, become part of the community, and enjoy friendships old and new. Survivors include his loving companion Diane Charlebois; daughters and their husbands Linda and Joel McQuay and Cindy and Vince Storm; grandchildren Lorena McQuay, Jenni (Tui) Faipea, Katie Storm, Martin Storm and Emma Storm; great-grandchildren Tui Jr., Sierra and Isabelle; sister Nicole Petrino-Salter and her husband Michael; and nephews Donovan and Joseph. Memorial service celebrating his life will be Friday, July 22, 2011, 1:00 PM at Penttila's Chapel by The Sea in Long Beach. Casual attire is suggested and all are invited to a potluck reception following at the chapel. "Bring your stories". "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world"; so said Christ Jesus in John 16:33. Richard, a beloved father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and dear friend has left this world and though saddened by loss, his family takes comfort in knowing that he has gone to be with Jesus Christ. Memorials may be made to either the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the American Heart Association. His guestbook is available at www.penttilaschapel.com.
