Sture A. Benson, 91, a resident of Naselle, Washington the past 4 years, died at a local care facility on July 11, 2011. A native of Visby, Sweden, Sture was born there on November 20, 1919. He immigrated to the United States with his father, brother and sister, entering America at Ellis Island, New York in October of 1926. Sture settled with his family in the Tacoma area. He was a 1939 graduate of Tahoma High School and served his country during World War II with the US Army. In the years thereafter he resided in Maple Valley, Washington where he was employed in the Gladding McBean Brickyard. Sture was an avid hunter and fisherman and he also enjoyed working around his home. Four years ago he moved to Naselle to be near family. Sutre and Velma Gooden were married June 26, 1941 in Maple Valley. She died November 21, 2007. Surviving are a son Jay Benson of Naselle; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous other members of his extended family. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by brothers Bertial and Martin Benson and a sister Dagmar Karolinia. No formal service will be held.
