Phillip F. "Phil" Nagy, 66, died Sept. 11, 2011, at his home in Chinook. The son of Betty Day Nagy and Frank Nagy, he was born Sept. 8, 1945, in Long Beach, Calif. He grew up and attended schools in Oxnard, Calif., graduating from Oxnard Union High School in 1963. Then from 1963 to 1967 he served in the U.S. Air Force station in Vietnam, Bermuda and the United States, where he worked as a jet engine mechanic. On Sept. 6, 1969, the married Donna; they had two children. At various times throughout his career he worked as a jet mechanic, an auto mechanic a salesman, ran his own auto repair shop, worked in Hollywood repairing antique cars, worked in Alaska in auto repair and then was the owner of Accuflight, a flight simulator of World War II aircraft, and in various other entrepreneurial endeavors that gave him great pleasure. He as a man who lived life and loved to challenge the status quo. He and his family moved to the Peninsula where he became semi retired, although he still collected and repaired antique cars, built model airplanes, and for three years was a substitute teacher at Tongue Point Job Corps Center. Mr. Nagy was a member of the Peninsula Model Airplane Club, and loved flying planes for real and online. He played the game Eve as Escazu. Survivors include his wife, Donna of Chinook; his son, Phillip Fredrick Nagy of San Jose, Costa Rica; his daughter, Charlotte Jean Nagy of Chinook; and his grandchildren, Kateland Alexis Nagy of Chinook and Lashia Lynn Nagy of Bakersfield, Calif. His mother, Bette (Nagy) Von Allmen and stepfather, Fritz Von Allmen and his grandmother, Catherine Day, preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Warrenton Christian Church, 1376 SE Anchor Avenue in Warrenton. Arrangements are by Penttila's Chapel by The Sea.
