Naselle resident Annette "Sis" Marie Gilbert-Smith, 51, died in Ilwaco, WA October 31, 2011 following a short battle with cancer. The daughter of Robert and Mabyn (Klint) Smith, she was born in Longview, Washington on April 17, 1960. She was raised in Rosburg where she attended grade school and was a graduate of Naselle High School, class of 1979. Sis was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was employed by the Washington Department of Fisheries at hatcheries in Naselle, Nemah, Grays River, and Elochoman. Her fellow fin clippers admired her work ethic. She enjoyed time with her many friends, card games, dice, listening to music, spoiling animals, and watching birds. When her son brought home a puppy named "Ranger" Sis gave him the nickname of "Button Nose" despite being totally angry over the new acquisition, and he provided great companionship. Sis is survived by her companion of 33 years and husband, Mike Gilbert; son Taylor Gilbert; sister Debbie Lopez; nephews Manuel and Jesse Lopez; "mom and dad" Phil and Anita Raistakka of Naselle; best friends Lori Badger, Amy Genn, and Marlee Burch; and other members of her extended family and many friends. All will miss her quick wit, generosity, and empathy for those in need. Her earthly visit has ended and she is at peace, pain free at last. Sis had requested that no service be held. Memorials are suggested to Harbors Home Health & Hospice, 201 7th Street, Hoquiam, WA 98508 or to an organization of one's choice. Her guestbook is available at www.penttilaschapel.com.
