Port Orchard resident Kenneth W. "Kenny" Maki, 68, died in Gig Harbor, Washington on November 3, 2011. The son of William and Ellen (Saari) Maki, he was born in Ilwaco, Washington on December 17, 1942. He grew up in Naselle where he graduated from Naselle High School in 1961. Kenny established a home in Deep River, Washington in 1966. In 1985 he moved to Forks, Washington and then to California two years later. Retirement took him to Port Orchard in 1998. Kenny drove log truck for Weyerhaeuser Timber for 22 years and was employed at Frank Barber Fine Cabinetry in California. Kenny was active as a member of the Lions club, Tri-County Search and Rescue, Kitsap Sheriff's Reserve and IWA Local 111. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cars, spending time with family and friends and was an avid card player. He also loved woodworking, reading and music. He was blessed with a beautiful voice and loved to yodel. He and Catherine Barber were married December 23, 1980. She survives residing at the family home in Port Orchard. Also surviving are sons Robert (Shannon) Maki of Naselle, James (Sofia) Maki of Bremerton, Washington and Donald Maki of Longview, Washington; daughters Mernie (Skot) Jones of Castle Rock, Washington, Tiffany (Tommy) Urland of Mount Vernon, Washington and Christian VanZandt of Bellingham, Washington; sisters Ruth Anderson of Naselle, Carol Williams of St. Helens, Oregon, Sylvia Kato of Naselle and Arlene Souvenir of Bay Center, Washington; grandchildren Kevin Maki, Joshua Maki, Sara Maki, Dane Jones, Kayla Maki, Lukas Maki, Alexandra Jones, Marlie Jones, Chris Mohr and Michael Mohr; and numerous nieces and nephews and others members of his extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Albert Maki. Funeral service will be Wednesday, November 9, 2011, 11:00 AM at the Naselle Assembly of God. Concluding graveside service follows at Salmon Creek Cemetery east of Naselle. A reception will be held at the American Legion Hall in Deep River.
