Samantha "Pastor Sam" Weir

July 15, 1948 — August 26, 2012

Pastor Sam Weir,64 of Ocean Park, died August 26, 2012 in Vancouver. Sam knew he time of this earth was coming to a close, so she wrote here own life story. Below is it , unchanged, in her own words. Pastor Samantha Marlene Klineline-Weir, born in Portland, Oregon July 15, 1948. Parents Clarence and Ruth Compton, two sisters, Bev and Debra and a brother, Marvin. Went to school in Portland, graduated from Franklin High School in 1966. Went to work almost immediately after graduation for J.I. Case Co., for 3 ½ years as a girl Friday. Then was married in Oregon by the Orchards UMC pastor in Vancouver. Lived then in Vancouver until I left to come to Ocean Park in Jan 15, 1992. Worked at several other places, in accounting. In between jobs I took two years off working and had our son, Travis. He went to Brush Prairie High School and after graduation he went into the Navy. I was chief cook and bottle washer, taxi driver for sports and then a working mom. I loved every bit of his growing up. I just had the one son. My call to ministry came in the late 1980's while I was at Orchards UMC in Vancouver. God was preparing me biblically and spiritually for a long while at Orchards, as I was involved for twenty years as a volunteer in every aspect of our church life. I then began working for Orchards as the Parish Assistant for four years. During that time there were many opportunities before me, which included preaching and equipping people to become disciples for Jesus Christ. As Parish Assistant, I learned how to help new people feel welcomed in the Church. My call to ministry plus the spiritual gifts God has blessed me with, together led me to answer the call to ministry as a local pastor in 1991. After completing the candidacy process, I was assigned to Ocean Park United Methodist Church on the Long Beach Peninsula and have been there for 13 plus years. While at Ocean Park UMC, I completed the five years of schooling at St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Missouri. I was divorced (friendly divorce) from Bryan in 1995 and in 1997 married John. My husband and myself are car enthusiasts, and in fact John rebuilt a 1953 Ford F100 truck from the ground up that he fondly calls his "Purple People Eater." It is a bright violet purple that is guaranteed to catch your eye. Together, we have four children and many grandchildren. My son Travis and his wife Naunee live in White Salmon with their three children Kyana 13, Syreese 11, Shailin 5, and Josh 13. === In addition to Travis and his family, Sam is survived by husband John of Ocean Park; Marvin Compton of Oregon; Sisters Beverly Anderson of Oregon and Debra White of Alaska. She was proceeded in death by her parents. A memorial service was held on September 1, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Ocean Park. Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach in charge of arrangements and her online guest book is available at www.penttilaschapel.com.
