Sandra J. Ryder, 64, a resident of the Long Beach Peninsula the past year, died January 3, 2013 in Ilwaco, Washington. The daughter of Darrel and Betty (Gibson) Bourland, she was born May 5, 1948 in The Dalles, Oregon. As a young girl she loved to ride horses unless a cow was around. Later she moved to Vancouver, Washington where she graduated from Hudson's Bay High School. She and Gary A. Ryder were married December 4, 1966 in Vancouver and Sandra became a wife, mother and homemaker. Later she became a sales associate where she instilled her strong work ethic with associates, and her children as well. Sandy was happy wherever she was "planted" and made friends immediately. For a number of years she resided in Missoula, Montana where she attended C.L.C. church and lately had been attending Peninsula Baptist Church in Ocean Park. She epitomized her Christian faith and one couldn't help but love her with her generous and outgoing personality. She was gifted artistically since childhood and her first projects were pencil drawings of horses. She made gorgeous oil paintings, cards, and taught classes in the craft projects in Missoula and Warrenton, Oregon. Exactly one year ago she fulfilled her dream of retiring at the beach with Gary. Together they had spent endless hours on the beach early on in their marriage and it was a "special" place for them. Beside her husband of 46 years, Sandy is survived by her parents Darrel and Betty Bourland of Vancouver, WA; daughter Traci Ryder Padrotti of Missoula, MT; son Michael Ryder and wife Juleah of Helena, MT; sister Karen McMakin and husband David of Washougal, WA; Traci's children Katelyn, Justin and Brandi; and numerous other members of her extended family. Memorial service will be Thursday, January 10, 2013, 11:00 AM at Peninsula Baptist Church in Ocean Park with a reception following. Her guestbook is available at www.penttilaschapel.com.
