Mary Lou Scaman

A private memorial service attended by family members was held Sunday January 5th, 2014 for Mary Lou Scaman. Mary passed away December 29th in Long Beach at the age of 88. Born on Cody, Wyoming to Charles and Arvilla Hill, she was the youngest of three children. Her family moved to Wenatchee while she was a young child and she received her education there. In 1945 she married, residing in Wenatchee and later moving to Yakima. There she was active on the hospital guild, performing many fund raisers. Along with her sister Betty she won a bowling cahmpionship. Tennis and golf were among her other interests. Summers were spent at Lake Chelan and Lake Pend Oreille swimming and water skiing. Mary and Joe also spent time with friends in Long Beach. They purchased their summer home on Cranberry approach in the late 1950s and upon retirement moved to Long Beach and became cranberry growers. Mary was active as a volunteer at Ocean View Convalescent Center as well as hostessing at Milton York. She also volunteered as the school when her grandchildren became school age. Surviving are her son Ronald (Wilma) Scaman; grandchildren Joe R. Scaman (CA) and Michelle Scaman (Alaska); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe C. Scaman; her parents; and sisters Charlotte Wick and Betty Aaron. The family requests memorials be made to the South Pacific County Humane Society in Mary's honor.
