NEIL ADAMS Ilwaco resident Neil Adams, 74, died in Ilwaco. A native of Durant, Oklahoma, he was born there March 30, 1939. Moving to the San Fernando Valley area of California, Neil received his education before joining the US Navy where he served as a sprinkler fitter. While living in Portland Neil was employed as a pipe fitter installing sprinkler systems and was a member of Local 669 of the Pipe Fitters Union. Thirty years ago he moved to the Peninsula to enjoy retirement. Neil enjoyed outdoor endeavors such as hunting, camping, fishing, hiking and bicycling with family and friends alike. He also enjoyed "hanging out" at the Port of Chinook and staying up with the local activities there. He was a member of Long Beach Elks. Neil loved also to be in the local "watering holes" where he met many good friends. It was his wish that his friends "tip a glass" in his memory. Survivors include his daughters Danielle Adams of Ilwaco and Niel Anne Sampson of Oregon; son Michael Adams of Oregon; sister Bobbie Llamas of North Ridge; grandchildren Nathan Adams, Sarah Freedman, Chris Freedman, Anjelica Sampson; three great-grandchildren; as well as nieces Cindy Smith and Connie Stephens and great nieces & nephews Cole, Joey & Katie On January 4th, 2013 Neil lost his courageous 11 month battle with cancer and finally met the light at the end of the tunnel. Blessed with a strong demeanor, Neil would want all to remember his blue eyes, the smile on his face, and be thankful they knew the "governor of Chinook". His family requests memorials to CCAP who provided meals in his final months. Thank you also to Georgia Lee Brewer and Kathy Mulvey, long time friends, who were always there when he needed them most. A clebration of his life will be held Saturday, January 25th, 2014, 3:00 PM at The Lamplightter Inn in beautiful downtown Seaview. A similar service has been held earlier, appropriately enough, in Chinook. His guestbook is available at www.penttilaschapel.com
