June E. Griffis, 82, a twenty-five year resident of Surfside (Ocean Park), Washington, died in Astoria, Oregon on February 19, 2014. The daughter of Hubert and Elizabeth Konkler, she was born June 6, 1931 in Bone Lake, Wisconsin. At an early age she moved with her family to Washington state. She attended grade school in Kirkland and Bellevue schools and was a 1949 graduate of Lake Washington High School. In 1956 she married Robert Griffis and they settled in the Kirkland area where June was a wife, mother and homemaker. In 1983 she and Robert started Griffis Cleaners, an enterprise which cleaned up after new home construction in the Kirkland area. Five yesrs later retirement called and they moved to the Peninsula to enjoyed the quiet life by the ocean. June was a member of the Kirkland Eagles lodge and later the Ocean Park Eagles and also the Ocean Park Moose where she was active in their respective golf clubs. She also was the past Senior Regent for the Moose Lodge. An avid golfer, June was past president of the Washington State Golf Association. Blessed with artistic abilities, June enjoyed painting and received numerous awards for her endeavors. Beside her husband of the family home, June is survived by her sons Steven Griffis of Woodinville and Mike Griffis of Snohomish; brothers Arlan Konkler of Kirkland and Darall Konkler of Marysville; sisters Donna Clay of Redmond and Patsy Abrams of Woodinville; and her grandchildren Lynne Griffis and John Griffis. She was preceded in death by brothers Pete Konkler and Art Konkler and her sister Colleen Konkler. A celebration of her life will be held at the Ocean Park Moose lodge on June 7, 2014 at 2 PM.
