Phillip O. Moore, 65, died April 8, 2014 in Long Beach following a brief but valiant battle with cancer. The son of Rival and Margaret (Millard) Moore, he was born in Astoria on September 28, 1948. Phil grew up in Long Beach and was a 1966 graduate of Ilwaco High School. Phil was inducted into the US Army in June of 1968, stationed in Germany. In December of that same year he married Carol Wisner. His military duty over, he and Carol returned to the Peninsula where Phil became a lineman for Telephone Utilities. Later he was self-employed installing telephone systems until retirement. Phil enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, training his Labrador hunting dogs, and in earlier years coaching baseball. He enjoyed family events and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play baseball. Phil is survived by his son Craig Moore and daughter-in-law Cindy Mullins of Chinook; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Dave McKee of Chinook; brother and sister-in-law Jeff and Barb Moore of Long Beach; sister Carol Moore Scott of Castle Rock, WA; grandchildren Anthony Wirkkala, Brittainie Watson, Alexa Wirkkala, Austin Wirkkala, Katie Olson, Carson Moore, Cailyn Moore, Taytum Wirkkala, Kayden Watson; nieces Kellie Lasley, Polly Alexander and Shannon MacDonald. Also surviving is his fiance Sandy Hampton. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved son Scott Moore. Phil's family has gathered to honor and celebrate his life.
