Robert Harrington, 91, a resident of Ocean Park, died May 25, 2014 in Ilwaco. He was the last surviving child born to Elmurion Sylvester and Opha Mae Harrington on February 28 , 1923 in Spokane, Washington. Following high school he attended Gonzaga University in Spokane and graduated from Eastern Washington University in Cheney. Robert was a veteran of service with the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of captain. During his career he piloted B-17, B-52, B-29 and B-47 aircraft. Following his military career Robert developed employee assistance programs, counseling individuals with substance abuse issues. Twenty-six years ago Robert located to the Peninsula from Anchorage, Alaska where he was a member of the Alaska Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. Born into the Presbyterian faith, Robert was the first child baptised in Millwood (WA) Presbytrerian Church. In his retirement Robert bought a Piper Cub J-3 aircraft and he relished every moment in the air. On November 26, 1944 Robert married Patricia Seavitt and their first home was in the Spokane Valley. She survives, residing at the family home in Ocean Park. Also surviving are daughters Lynda LaVigne of Port Hadlock, WA, Carol (Bob) Mead of Harrington, WA, and Nancy Harrington of Spokane Valley, WA; grandchildren Cindy, Patrick, Joshua and Joseph; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and other member of his extended family. He was preceded in death by brothers Archie, Kenneth and Howard Harrington and sister Eloise Peterson. A celebration of his life will be held from 1 until 3 PM on Sat., June 7, 2014 at the Peninsula Senior Center in Klipsan Beach. His guestbook is available at www.penttilaschapel.com.
