John Romero

John Clarence Romero, 78, passed away on September 30, 2014 at his home in Ocean Park, WA. He was born on June 28, 1936 in Antonito, CO to Louis J. and Maria Antonia Rafaela (Martinez) Romero. John grew up in Salt Lake City, UT. He graduated from Jordan High School in Sandy, UT in 1954. John married Barbara Yvonne McGrath on August 14, 1956 in Salt Lake City, UT. They were happily married for 58 years. John joined the Utah Air National Guard in 1954 and served as the Master Sergeant to the 151st Combat Support Squadron. John also held the position of Secretary-treasurer of the Academy Graduate Association and served on the Association's Board of Directors. In 1974 John and Barbara owned and operated Sun n' Surf Travel for 24 years where they traveled every continent. John was also a Professor at Mountain West College where he taught Tourism and Travel Services Management. John enjoyed golfing, fishing and most of all spending precious time with his family. John also received numerous awards and was recognized for his many accolades. John is preceded in death by his parents Louis J. and Maria Antonia Rafaela (Martinez) Romero, brothers Gene, Phillip and Ralph Romero, and sister Linda (Romero) Parks. John is survived by his spouse, Barbara Yvonne Romero of Ocean Park, WA; his daughters Debra (Norm) Batt of Park City, UT, Jodie (Craig) Culley of Tigard, OR, and son Timothy (Janet) Romero of Riverton, UT, his brother Carl (Barbara) Romero and sister Marcia (Richard) Jensen; 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at Camp Williams Chapel, 17111 S. Camp Williams Rd, Bluffdale, UT 84065 at 12:00 pm on Friday, October 10, 2014 with a viewing prior from 10:00-11:30am. Interment to follow.
