Mary Louise LeClaire

Mary Louise Haugh LeClaire, 83, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at home in Klipsan Beach surrounded by her four daughters. Mary was born Feb. 26, 1931, in Grand Mound, Wash., to Harry and Ruby Haugh. She attended school in Rochester and on Sept. 12, 1947, married Neil LeClaire. They made their first home in Oakville. Mary was a 52-year resident of the Peninsula after moving from Elma in 1962. Mary worked at several jobs on the Peninsula and was the owner of Completely Nuts Goodie Shop in Long Beach where she was affectionately known as "Mare-Mare" and Grandma Candy. Mary enjoyed volunteering for local events but the Dixieland Jazz Festival was her favorite. Her family was always her top priority and greatest joy. They will all cherish the memories and special treats from Grandma. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Neil in 2008. She is survived by her daughters, Linda LeClaire of Klipsan Beach; Kathy Hughes and husband Dale of Chinook; Karla Nelson and husband Peter of Klipsan Beach; and Lisa Paulson and husband Norman of Washougal; her grandchildren, Traci Drake, Ann Torres, Michael Drake, Lori Hughes, Steve Miller, Kelli Hughes Schimelpfenig, Matthew Hughes, Carrie Shifflette Hughes and William Paulson; great-grandchildren, Kainoa and Makai Torres, Owen Ziegler, Ruary and Milo Schimelpfenig and Grace Miller. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to The Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum, P.O. Box 153, Ilwaco, WA 98624. A celebration of life is planned for mid-January.
