Janelle Petit

Long time Ilwaco resident Janelle Petit, 91, died at a local care facility on February 13, 2015. The daughter of Dean and Mabel Walker, she was born in Wheeler, Illinois on August 1, 1923. At an early age Janelle came to the Peninsula with her parents and was a graduate of Ilwaco High School. Janelle married Jack Harris Petis and they established their residence in Ilwaco in the 1950s and Janelle resided there ever since. For a number of years she was a familiar face at the Ilwaco Post Office where she was a clerk. Janelle was a member of Ocean Beach Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading, golf, bowling and bingo. Of paramount importance to her was her family. Survivors include her son Greg Petit of Ilwaco; daughter Jackie Phillips of Ridgefield, WA; brother Ellis Dean Walker of Cusick, WA; grandcildren Tina Ward, Craig Petit, and Andy Petit; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Madonna Shettel, Yvonne Bledsoe, and Cosette Cornner. Private family service and celebration of her life will be held later.
