Our beautiful example of God's love in action went home to Jesus on March 2nd, 2015. She was born August 12, 1924 in Purdum, Nebraska, the second child of Lloyd and Lucille Herbaugh. She grew up in the sand hills until coming to Washington in 1936. The family settled in the Skagit Valley doing farming and dairying. She married Frank "Ford" Ellis in 1944. Ford died 2 days before his daughter, Fordell was born in 1946. Viv worked as a nurse's aide until Gerald Pells came a callin'. They were married October 21, 1949, moving Viv and Fordell to Long Beach, Washington. They raised their family: Fordell, David, Ellen, Jim, and Ann at the beach. Vivian was active in her church, giving us a great example to follow, always there to lend a helping hand wherever she was needed. She worked as a janitor for the Ocean Beach School District for 10 years. She loved working for PACE either in the kitchen or out delivering meals. She was such an encourager for those elderly friends. After Gerald died in 1997 she moved to Cathlamet, Washington to be near her daughter Ellen. Even in her later years at the nursing homes she was an encourager even to the staff be it by a smile, a touch or a wink. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Ford and Gerald; her parents Lloyd & Lucille Herbaugh; and 5 sisters. Survivors include her children: Fordell Gorley (Doug)of Yakima WA, David (Carla) of Addison, Texas, Ellen Bair (Ken) of Longview, WA, Jim (Cheryl) of Long Beach WA, Ann Liebert (Ron) of Granger WA, 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, 2 brothers; Don Herbaugh (Helen) and Lyle Herbaugh (Gerda) both of Mt Vernon, WA and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Her Life will be held Saturday March 14, 2015 at 1 pm at Penttila's Chapel by the Sea in Long Beach WA with a reception following. Interment at Lone Fir Cemetery. Viewing will be 1-8 pm Friday March 13th. In lieu of flowers a memorial may be given to your local senior meals on wheels. Her guestbook is available at www.penttilaschapel.com
