Frances Marie Kent, 96, a 25 year resident of the Peninsula, passed peacefully on August 16, 2016 at her Ocean Park residence. The daughter of Ernest and Marie (Smith) Kruse, she was born June 9, 1920 in Hannibal, Missouri. Frances grew up on a dairy farm in West Ely, Missouri where she received her formal education.
With the outbreak of World War II, Frankie traveled with her sisters to Portland, Oregon to join the war effort. She worked in the shipyards, later a cracker factory, and finally was an electrician at an aircraft factory.
On September 19, 1944 she married Vernon Kent in Spokane, Washington. Vern was to make the military a career and together they resided in Germany, Alaska and several locations stateside. Retirement took them to Olympia, Northgate and Edmonds, Washington before settling in Ocean Park.
Frankie was a member of the Lutheran Church. Over the years she enjoyed being a seamstress, gardener and avid baker.
Survivors include her daughters Linda Kay Kent of Bellingham, WA and Alexa Ann Avery of Ocean Park; grandchildren Stacy Paris and Amanda Cropp; and other members of her extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon and her son Robert Forest Kent.
Family and friends gathered September 3rd at her residence for a garden party, memorial potluck and planting, all in Frankie's memory. Memorials are requested to local emergency technicians. Her guestbook is available at www.penttilaschapel.com.
