Norma Joan Caba
Norma was born in Sandy, OR on May 19, 1938 to Leland ”Dutch” and Anna May (Caswell) Mattox. She was the third of 5 children born to them. Norma was raised and educated in the Sandy/Boring areas, attending Cottrell Grade and Sandy High Schools.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Brent and Michael, and her husband “Chuck” Charles Caba.
Chuck and Norma raised two sons in the country near Sandy. Randy and Scott Caba survive her and both reside near Ilwaco, WA. Surviving her are 2 siblings, Robert Mattox and Leila Mattox, also of the Ilwaco area.
Norma always worked hard to provide for her family. Her skills included operating resale stores, preparing income taxes, co-owner of Portland’s Neon School of Art, care-taking for RV Parks, & waitressing, among other things.
She lived her Christian faith, evident in her loving, kind ways and welcoming smile! She enjoyed gardening and could be found on hands and knees on any decent day! She knew the names of many flowers and birds, which she fed daily as well. Norma was an excellent cook, hosting many family events, often on the spur of the moment. For over a decade, she enjoyed online word games with pals from around the world; often finishing in the top five!
Norma loved and was loved by her grandchildren: Kendall Caba of Portland, OR; Stevie and Matt Utter and Danielle Collins of La Center, WA. She has numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends around the northwest and was loved dearly.
Norma passed to her heavenly reward on Monday, April 17, 2017 following a brief battle with lung cancer. She will be deeply missed.
Her guestbook is available at www.penttilaschapel.com.
