Richard A. Hammond, known to his friends as "Rick, " died on December 15, 2017 in Nahcotta after a brief battle with lung cancer.
Rick was born in Ilwaco, Washington on March 14, 1950. He moved to the San Francisco Bay area at a young age, and later to Sunnyside, Washington, but spent most of the summers of his youth in Nahcotta with his maternal grandparents Don and Irene Christy.
These formative years gave him a lifelong love of the Long Beach Peninsula and its many recreational opportunities such as clamming, salmon and sturgeon fishing, and beach combing. He moved back to the area about 1977. For many years Rick worked with Jack Gustafson at Jack's Welding in Long Beach and played on the pool league for Doc's Tavern.
He is survived by his sister Sherrie, daughters Teena Franklin (Kirk) and Treeva Edwards (Troy), and grandchildren Blake Bare, Brianna Bare, Jemma Franklin, and Kaleb Edwards.
No funeral will be held, but a celebration of life service may be held after the first of the year.
