Ocean Park resident DeWayne LaPointe, 68, died in Puyallup, Washington on July 4, 2018. He was the retired pastor of Family Worship Center and long time member of Ocean Beach Hospital's elected board.
DeWayne was a man of strong faith and commitment. He was loving and generous, living his life in service to others.
On June 21, 1969 he married his high school sweetheart, Eva Taylor. They shared 51 years of love, adventures, and precious moments together.
Following service in the US Navy for 6 years, he worked in the police field as a 911 dispatcher in California, Oregon and Washington. He received multiple college degrees and numerous awards for his work accomplishments and service.
DeWayne was in the ministry for 40 plus years, serving in various positions and as Associate and Senior Pastor, of which 24 years of that time was in Ocean Park. He loved his family dearly and was an extremely proud father and grandfather. He loved the beach, trains, music and singing (that deep bass voice) and was also a wonderful violinist, playing in several symphony orchestras throughout his lifetime.
DeWayne was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and his daughter Michelle who died in March 2009. He is survived by his wife Eva of Ocean Park, son Tony and daughter-in-law Tammie, grand daughter Ashley and her husband Jordan Melton, all of Molalla, Oregon; son-in-law Aaron Dean and grandson Sam of Mount Vernon, Washington; sister Vicki Goodwin of Reseda, California; sister Donna of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas; brother-in-laws Tom Taylor and wife Cindy and Robert Taylor and wife Gail, and Chris Taylor and niece Brooke all of California; various nieces and nephews and cousins, and many dear friends.
There will be a Memorial Service for DeWayne on Saturday, September 15th, 2018, 1:00 PM at Family Worship Center in Ocean Park. His guestbook is available at www.penttilaschapel.com.
