Flag Retirement Program at Penttila's

Flag Retirement Program at Penttila's

Most people are not sure of what to do with a flag that has seen better days. Some continue to fly their aged flag or have purchased a new flag while holding onto their old one.

At Penttila's Chapel by the Sea, we are collecting those worn, tattered or torn American flags that are no longer suitable for display and are no longer fit to serve the nation.

To honor our veterans, and if a family wishes, we will provide one of the aged retired flags donated to be cremated alongside their veteran. The flag collected will drape over the veteran’s cremation receptacle prior to cremation and will stay with them during the cremation process. This gives the flag one last great duty of honoring your loved one.

In accordance to The United States Flag Code, Title 4, Section 8k states-“The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”

Stop by Penttila's Chapel at 1515 Pacific Ave S, Long Beach- across from McDonald's- and we will gladly accept those flags.

Please make sure all flags provided have been shown the care and dignity they deserve.

“We salute all those service men, woman and their families who have served promoting the freedom that we are fortunate to have today.” - Eric Anderson, owner
